6th Annual Race for Brain Tumor Research Honors and Remembers Brain Tumor Patients

Race raises funds for local brain tumor researchers

October 4, 2013 – Playa Del Rey, CA~  The  6th Annual Heroes of Hope Race for Brain Tumor Research will take place on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa Del Rey.  The event raises money for less toxic brain tumor treatments in Los Angeles with past and present funds being donated to UCLA, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai.  Over a thousand participants including adult and pediatric brain tumor patients, doctors, hospital staff, athletes and others impacted by cancer, as well as celebrities will be in attendance.

Runners and walkers can enjoy a fast and flat 5k or 10k course with chip timing and beach and ocean views. There is also a Kids Fun Run (less than 1 mile) and an expo in the beach parking lot featuring a fun for the entire family.  Josefa Salinas, radio personality from HOT 92.3 will be the emcee/host as she is a brain tumor survivor.  There are many ways to honor and remember a loved one impacted by cancer at the event.

This year all finishers receive medals and special medals will be awarded to the top three male and female in each age division.  There is also a special Rivals United in Hope Cup that is awarded to the Top Fundraising Team, Largest Team and Top School. UCLA and USC tied for the Top School cup last year.

This year there is a special superhero theme with capes for pediatric brain tumor patients. Past years have seen over 1200 runners and donations to date total over $400,000.

Brain tumors continue to be the leading cause of solid tumor death in children and young men under the age of 39.  With the government in shutdown mode, the NIH will have to close down clinical trials that impact children and continued sources of funding are even more critical.

Register to run and/or start a team today at www.heroesofhoperace.org.  There is also a virtual runner option for those who cannot attend but may wish to complete the distance on their own time and turf. Medal and bib will be mailed after the event to virtual runners.
