The 7th annual Heroes of Hope silent auction will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Lansdowne Resort Ballroom, and will include more than 700 items donated by local businesses. All proceeds raised from the auction will directly benefit brain tumor research in an effort to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for the disease.
The Brad Kaminsky Foundation for Brain Tumor Research sponsors the event as part of the "Grey Ribbon Crusade" to help fund brain tumor research. In seven years of existence, the foundation has raised more than $275,000 for its cause.
Several pieces of autographed memorabilia from the Washington Redskins, the Washington Capitals, So You Think You Can Dance winner Sabra Johnson, the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens and more will be among the auction's featured items. Also up for grabs are restaurant gift certificates, hotel stays, artwork, jewelry, children's classes and activities and salon services.
Also, the "Taylor's Corner" special section will appear once again this year with auction items that will directly benefit Taylor Love, an Ashburn girl battling a neuroblastoma.
The silent auction is open to the public, with no attendance fee or registration required. Supporters need not be present to win and auction items may be viewed remotely at www.tbkf.org/golftournament/auction.htm. Those that are able to attend in person are asked to bring a non-perishable donation such as snacks, crayons, coloring books and other similar items, to be made into gift baskets for local community members fighting cancer.
