YOUNG NEW YORK GRAPHIC ARTIST HAS LOGO DESIGN SELECTED IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

A young graphic artist based in Queens, New York, has had her design selected by the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA) as its official logo from entries submitted by student and professional designers and other artists in the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Finland, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Ms Rachel Aubrey, 27 years, is a graduate from the NY Institute of Technology and is currently a graphic designer for a school that specialises in teaching foreign languages to children.

The International Brain Tumour Alliance was established at the World Neuro-Oncology Conference held in Edinburgh (UK) in 2005 and seeks to promote the information, support and advocacy needs of those affected by a tumour of the central nervous system.

In submitting her design Ms Aubrey said “My design symbolizes togetherness. It shows an alliance of people, arms around each other, bound by the same cause. They are people who want to spread awareness and make a difference. It was important to me that the figures forming the initials IBTA were united and that they be bold to show strength. A fight for an important cause can be won if there is an alliance of passionate people side-by-side working for the same goals."

A small version of the logo appears in the top right hand corner of this media release. Higher resolution JPEGs of the design in either black or blue lettering may be downloaded from here:

Ms Aubrey’s successful entry and the other entries from around the world will be exhibited by the IBTA at the 7th Congress of the European Association for Neuro-Oncology (EANO) to be held in Vienna, during 14-17 September. In the following week Ms Aubrey will be presented with an award for her successful design by the Chair of the IBTA, Mr Denis Strangman from Australia who will be visiting North America to confer with leaders of the major brain tumor organisations. (The designs have also been uploaded to the Web at: http://www.theibta.org/Entries.htm )

Mr Strangman congratulated Ms Aubrey on the selection of her design, saying that it strongly portrayed the co-operation and inclusiveness that the IBTA attempted to promote. He also thanked the three pharmaceutical companies, Schering-Plough Corporation, Eli Lilly and Company, and NeoPharm, that had sponsored the competition.
