'Tour of the California Alps' fundraiser for brain tumor research!
Ken Stover is riding his bike again on July 10th in the Tour of the California Alps (aka The California Death Ride) to raise money for the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research and Information. The Tour of the California Alps is a beautiful but challenging ride in the California Sierra’s near the Nevada border. It is a one-day ride of 129 miles with 16,000 feet of cumulative vertical feet ascending over 5 mountain passes at altitudes between 5,000 and 9,000 feet. Last year it took Ken just under 10 hours in the saddle at temperatures ranging from 39 to 100 degrees and speeds ranging from 5 mph to 57 mph to complete this ride. Ken raised just over 8,000 dollars last year and he hopes to significantly exceed this amount this year in his father’s memory.

The Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research and Information is special cause for Ken because his father suffered from an aggressive form of brain tumor (glioblastoma multiforme) for almost 2 ½ years before passing on Veterans Day 2003. Before diagnosis with this tumor, Ken’s father was a very healthy and active 70 year-old man with the body of a healthy 50 year old. He loved sports and enjoyed watching one of his inspirations for fighting cancer, Lance Armstrong; ride in the Tour de France. He outlived the 6-month predictions based on his age and tumor type and had at least a year and a half of quality life with new therapies to treat this terrible disease. The Musella foundation was a very useful source of information on this disease and the treatment options. For more information on the Musella Foundation please visit www.virtualtrials.com.
It is possible to easily donate by credit card through a secure web site directly to the Musella Foundation at https://www.virtualtrials.com/donate2.cfm.
