FREEDOM PLAZA, 1300 PENNSYLVANIA AVE. N.W., WASHINGTON, D.C.

INTRO

This popular springtime run/walk brings out good competition as well as those who support the cause. A kid's fun run adds to the festivities. Registration is available Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning at packet pickup. Proceeds of this event benefit the Brain Tumor Society and The Brain Tumor Research Trust.

THE COURSE

The race enjoys a very scenic start/finish in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. The USATF certified, fast course takes runners and walkers on an out-and- back course along Pennsylvania Avenue, and offers gorgeous views of the US Capitol Building and springtime in our nation's capital.

KID'S FUN RUN

In addition to the fast course, there will be a kid's quarter mile Fun Run immediately after the start of the 5K. All fun run finishers will receive a ribbon or medal. No registration necessary for the Fun Run; just come and run!

AWARDS

Merchandise awards will be presented to the top three men and women finishers and to the top two male and female finishers in the standard five-year age groups. Special prizes for the first male and female brain tumor survivor participants!

FESTIVITIES

Stick around for our post-race festivities, including great random prizes donated by area restaurants and retailers. All 5K participants receive a terrific 100% cotton 'There is Hope' Brain Tumor 5K T-Shirt -- newly designed for 2004!

CHAMPIONCHIP TIMING AND SCORING

The ChampionChip timing system will be used to score the race. The system uses a computer 'chip' which must be tied to runners' shoelaces, and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line as well as the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. Overall awards will be based on 'clock time,' and age group awards will be based on net time. You must wear your ChampionChip on your shoe and cross the mats at the start and finish to be scored.
