Treatment Of Child's Brain Tumor Debated

DETROIT -- Doctors say surgery is the only chance a 2-year-old girl with brain cancer has to survive. But her parents want to continue homeopathic treatment.

Now, the debate over how to care for the child has turned into a court battle.

The girl's neurosurgeons in Detroit say the tumor deep in the brain of Noshin Hogue will likely kill her within two years. But her parents, fearing risky surgery, are fighting to continue alternative remedies in Canada that they say are improving their daughter's condition.

The Oakland County prosecutor's office has filed an emergency petition seeking to allow surgeons to remove the tumor.

In response, a judge has ordered the child to undergo tests to determine the effectiveness of the homeopathic treatment. Another hearing is set for next month.
