BENIGN BRAIN TUMOR BILL - CALL TO ACTION

On Thursday, August 1, just before leaving for its August recess, the United States Senate approved S.2558, the Benign Brain Tumor Cancer Registries Amendment Act. This legislation would require the federal cancer data collection process to include data on all brain tumors, including benign brain tumors. The so-called "benign" brain tumors can be devastating, and they can become malignant. Brain tumors are presently under-counted. Since funding is based on incidence, this legislation should ultimately lead to more funding available for brain tumor research. The data collected, together with the increase of funding, will help the medical researchers in their search into causes, treatments, and (we hope!) cures.

Activists of the brain tumor community are making a final push to contact our Representatives to make sure the House quickly follows the Senate's lead and passes H.239, the House version of this important bill, promptly upon reconvening in September.
