Custom-Made Wigs for Cancer Sufferers

Hair loss from cancer treatments can be devastating. Rodolfo Valentin, owner of Rodolfo Valentin Spa, Salon & Hairpieces at 137 Cedarhurst Ave. in Cedarhurst, knows about that firsthand. His mother, Sofia, lost her hair while undergoing chemotherapy. Valentin made his first custom-made wig for her.

For one year, Valentin will make a customized wig for one cancer patient each month. "Sofia's Hair 4 Health" begins in July. Candidates must be a Long Islander or Queens resident who is fighting cancer and falls within certain income brackets. Nominations can be made by the friends, family, cancer-care specialists or by the patient. Nominations are due by the 14th of each month. For information, call 516-569- 0574 or visit www.rodolfovalentin.com.
