Tuesday November 1, 9:19 PM

CHICAGO, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Schering-Plough Corp. said on Tuesday its Japanese unit has submitted a new drug application for its brain tumor drug Temodal. Schering-Plough said the Japanese Health Ministry has agreed to conduct a priority review of the application to satisfy an unmet medical need in Japanese patients.

Malignant gliomas are primary brain tumors that develop from glial cells. About 30 percent of primary brain tumors are gliomas, which affect about six to eight people per 100,000 worldwide.
