Northland family taking 14-year-old son to Australia for brain surgery

Today a Northland family will be flying thousands of miles from their home, but inching closer to giving their youngest son a chance at a better life.

Rhonda and Dan Oakley and their son Daniel will head to Australia, where doctors plan to remove a grape-sized tumor from Daniel's brain.

The congenital, benign tumor causes the 14-year-old to suffer multiple seizures every day and has prevented him from developing normally. Daniel's Kansas City doctor has said that if surgeons can extract the tumor without damaging the brain, Daniel could improve.
