NewsRx Announces New Publisher, Editor-In-Chief, Key Staff

INTERNET WIRE -- NewsRx Network, Atlanta, the leading provider of life science databases and daily and weekly health news, has announced top staff appointments, including a new editor-in-chief and publisher for its wire services, 25 periodicals, and two separate Internet sites at www.NewsRx.net and www.NewsRx.com.

Carol Kohn, ELS (D), one of only eleven individuals worldwide who is a board certified Diplomate Editor in the Life Sciences, has been named NewsRx editor-in-chief. Formerly, she was with the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital, and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Kohn is councilor and co-founder of the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences.

The new publisher at NewsRx is Susan Hasty. Formerly she was executive editor at Thomson Healthcare's American Health Consultants. Previously, Hasty served as editor of Apparel Industry Magazine and managing editor of Business Atlanta magazine. Hasty is former director of public relations for the International Association for Financial Planning.

Charles Henderson, formerly NewsRx publisher and editor-in-chief as well as CEO, will continue as the company's chief executive officer.

Mike Christopher, formerly promotions account executive for EBSCO Industries' Publisher Promotion & Fulfillment division, has been named NewsRx marketing director.

Deborah Heinrich, PhD, joins NewsRx as staff medical writer. Heinrich, who is a trustee of the Connecticut Vaccine Information Alliance (CVIA), was newsletter editor and writer for that group before joining NewsRx. She is a former assistant professor of biology at Agnes Scott College. Earlier she was with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Emory University and the Department of Immunology at Duke University.

Nancy Saltmarsh also joins NewsRx as staff medical writer. Before joining NewsRx, Saltmarsh was production editor, writer, and editor at Thomson Healthcare's American Health Consultants. She is former associate editor of Better Nutrition magazine.

Susan Virgili, ELS, Board Certified Editor in the Life Sciences, is now NewsRx Senior Editor. Before joining NewsRx, she was medical editor at PPD Development, where she edited regulatory submissions, including clinical trial reports and safety updates. Earlier she was copy editor with Oxford University Press. databases are derived from medical conferences and over 3,000 peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals, including 6,000 medical articles published worldwide each week.

NewsRx.net, one of the company's two Internet sites, is innovative because users receive a current, organized, printable report on their specific topic of interest. No other Internet site has this capability.

"The reports can be used to update and inform the complete NewsRx '5P Strategy', which includes patients, physicians, practitioners, providers, and pharmaceutical professionals," Henderson said.

"The NewsRx 5P Strategy is unique because our reports are available for each of these five types of users. Physicians or providers have very different needs than pharmaceutical professionals or patients. Not only can we help pharmaceutical companies discover new treatments, we can keep physicians and their patients constantly updated," Henderson said.

Physicians, pharmaceutical, and healthcare professionals accessing another company Web site at NewsRx.com are able to receive specialized information in more than 20 weekly medical reports, including Diabetes Week, Stem Cell Week, AIDS Weekly, Cancer Weekly, Vaccine Weekly, Women's Health Weekly, Biotech Week, Angiogenesis Weekly, Blood Weekly, Health & Medicine Week, Drug Week, Hepatitis Weekly, Virus Weekly, Gene Therapy Weekly, Obesity Fitness & Wellness Week, Diabetes Week, Genomics & Genetics Weekly, Heart Disease Weekly, Immunotherapy & Immunology Week, Medical Letter on the CDC & FDA, Medical Devices & Surgical Technology Week, Pain & Central Nervous System Week, TB & Outbreaks Week, and Vector & Zoonosis Week. NewsRx provides information and data products using its proprietary Journalist Assisted Technology (JAT) and Component Aggregation Technology (CAT). Its news database library at NewsRx.com contains 120,000 health and science related articles. At NewsRx.net, 12,000 database reports are available monthly, quarterly, or annually on almost any niche health or science subject.
