JPMorgan H&Q CEO Resigns

JPMorgan H&Q Announces Chief Executive Daniel Case Has Resigned Following Surgery

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Daniel Case, chief executive of JPMorgan H&Q, has resigned, the company disclosed at its five-day technology conference.

Case, 43, the brother of AOL Time Warner Inc. [NYSE:AOL - news] chairman Steve Case, underwent surgery five weeks ago to remove a malignant brain tumor.

Case retains the title of chairman and will continue to work part time as he recovers from the surgery.

The Monday announcement of Case's departure came about two years after Hambrecht & Quist investment bank was acquired by Chase Manhattan Corp., which later merged with J.P. Morgan to become J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

"Dan is under treatment, but is fine," said Cristina Morgan, J.P. Morgan Chase's new vice chairman of investment banking.

Daniel Case, a Rhodes scholar out of Princeton, began work for Hambrecht & Quist as an intern, rising to co-director of mergers and acquisitions in 1987.
