(0.9117)   I saw the posting below, and think I could have the same condition. I wonder what treatment options there are? Question: Is an Arachnoid Cysts considered a tumor? Answer:05/19/2002 absolutely not. an arachnoid cyst is not a tumor. it is a cyst filled with spinal fluid and sometimes can build up under pressure. some tumors have cysts associated with them, but they look different from arachnoid cysts. many times an arachnoid cyst is asymptomatic. A. Fried, MD, FACS Hackensack University Medical Center

(0.9117)   Is an Arachnoid Cysts considered a tumor?

(0.9116)   In June 2003, my 16-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a colloid cyst in the third ventricle (approximately 6 mm). After several months and different medications, surgery was performed to remove the cyst. However, the doctor was only able to remove 1 mm due to the closeness to her short term memory area. Her surgery and recovery went well; however, she still suffers from severe headaches at least once a week (up to 3 times a week) that usually leave her pretty much incapacitated for 24 to 36 hours. She just had another post surgery MRI done and the report shows the colloid cyst the same, but the radiologist's report also states that there is a pineal cyst and something about hemorragic products. Should I be worried about this pineal cyst? She will be 17 years old in February, so would this still be considered pediatrics or adult? The doctor had talked once about a spinal fluid exam, should this be considered? As I stated, she still has frequent, severe headaches and the surgery has caused some short-term memory problems. It has been a scary year, but she seems to be doing well. I do not want to be an over-anxious, worried mother, but I want the best for her health.

(0.9017)   My father has had 2 MRI~s, a CAT scan, chest xrays, etc. He has been diagnosed with a cyst in the cerebellum. His symptoms include dizziness, exhaustion (also difficulty reading adn concentrating -- although this may be a separate vision problem). What is a brain cyst? What are they looking for by doing a chest and liver xray? Is this definitely a cyst or is ~~cyst~~ a euphemism for a possible tumor? We are still waiting for more test results. What questions should we be asking? Thanks!

(0.8912)   Is a cyst and a tumor the same? What causes a cyst in the brain? How dangerous is this? Our 15-year-old has been told that he has a cyst in the brain. How can this be treated?

(0.8912)   I am 30-year-old female. I have been having headaches, dizziness, visual disturbances, and problems bumping into things when walking. I recently went for an MRI (without contrast). The doctor told me that I have a neuroepithelial cyst in the right temporal region of my brain and that they will repeat the MRI with contrast in 3 months. I have been trying to find out more about this type of cyst and all I find is a neuroepitelial tumor. Is this truly a cyst or a tumor and what treatment options do I have to relieve the symptoms. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

(0.8912)   hi have you ever heard of cyst in the memory part of your brain? what is it called and I was told that if removed lost of memory, these cyst are breaking. one ct scan had 5 next one 3 please help

(0.8909)   My daughter, age 29, was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst in her brain stem three years ago. The doctor said he would drain the cyst and insert a shunt. After surgery, he said he ~~shredded~~ the cyst but didn~t install the shunt. He said it wouldn~t return. Now she is diagnosed as having a tumor in the same location. When she asked her current doctor if it is something to be expected that a cyst would transform into a tumor or if this is a rare circumstance, he said he didn~t know, he didn~t have an answer for her. Her mother and I are concerned that she hasn~t been receiving adequate medical advice/treatment. Can you tell us if this change from a cyst to a tumor has been encountered before? Is it rare for this to happen? Thank You Neil Cummins

(0.8792)   I am the mother of a 18-year-old son who was diagnosed with an Arachnoid cyst four years ago. It was as a result of loss of function in his hand and migraine headaches that we had a CT scan done and found the cyst. He was then seen by two doctors at the children's hospital in Vancouver. His symptoms had subsided by the time that we went to his appointment and they told us to watch for further symptoms and other than that everything should be fine. Within the last 18 months he has shown a subtle but noticable change in his personality and has turned against his family and friends. I am at a loss as to whether or not this could be manifesting as a part of a potential change in the cyst. My doctor has lost him as a patient since he has moved out of the house and we have no way of knowing the credentials of the other doctor that he has seen. He did have another CT done and the results were interpreted by the new doctor. No specialist has been seen and the sad thing is that no one but his family seems to be aware of the changes in character. I have two other sons and enough experience with them to know that this is not something to ignore or simply say that it is typical rebellion. Please at least contact me to let me know of some avenue or resource center that I can contact.

(0.8792)   My son is 25 years old and he had a ganglioglioma removed from the corpus callosum 18 months ago. It had a cyst attached to it. The cyst was drained but the sac was left in. The neurologist said that it will fill up again in time. Is the cyst considered tumor? And, if so, should we be concerned about this cyst filling up again? Also, they said it would be too dangerous to remove the cyst sac and it is referred to on the subsequent lab reports as a residual tumor.

(0.8789)   I have had symptoms of diplopia, my family doctor prescribed an MRI which showed a 1 cm pineal cyst. I also went to see an opthamologist who did a complete exam, which showed no abnormalities of the eyes or surrounding area. Also, they did blood tests to rule out MS and M-G. My question is, can the pineal cyst be causing the diplopia and, if so, what treatment options are available? Would surgical resection of the cyst be an option?

(0.8660)   I have just learned I have a Pineal cyst and have been referred to a neurosurgeon from my neuroligist. This is new to me. What can I expect?

(0.8660)   I just had an MRI which came back showing a cyst on my pineal gland. I had the MRI due to severe and increasingly frequent and more severe migraines. There is a history of brain cancer in my family. Is this, a pineal cyst, something that is usually treated? If so, how is it treated?

(0.8658)   What is normal treatment for a 0.9 centimeter pineal cyst. Also called pituitary macroadenoma?

(0.8658)   Here is more info re question about use of Cobalt vs LA machine: 29 old female, MR showed tumor accompanied with cyst at right side of brainsteam (medulla oblongata), 18 mm nodule part, with cyst 30 mm, very risky to operate but afterall operation performed in May, cyst drained out, some small part of nodule taken out, pathological results showed that it is pilocytic astrocytoma, after that radiation (54 grays) over aprox. 6 weeks, radiation finished at the end of July. Any guess why did they use the Cobalt? Also please answer my second question: how long after the radiation is completed the effects on tumor can be seen, more than 4 months? Thank you.

(0.8512)   A recent MRI showed a 27 mm (2.7cm) pineal cyst. I am having awful headaches, trouble concentrating, and am irritable. Should I be concerned? My family doctor does not seem to be.

(0.8511)   I just found out today that my last annual MRI showed a large pineal cyst, which is probably benign, and there is slight compression of the superior caliculi. My doctor filed a non-urgent referral to neurosurgery and told me that if I start experiencing any ocular symptoms to call him and he would change it to urgent. I would like to know what the MRI report means and if there are any other symptoms I should watch for. So you know, I have a history of grade III oligodendroglioma left frontal lobe which necessitates the annual MRI. It was resected 4/26/1996, chemo/radiation ending 1/17/1997, remission since 2/2002. Please let me know as soon as you can since my brain tumor history has me a bit anxious about the pineal cyst.

(0.8510)   I have a 9-year-old son who has a history of absence seizures. He has only had about 7-10 of them that we are aware of. He also complains of double vision while reading and headaches. He had a CT, MRI, and a follow up MRI. The impression on the MRI is as follows: Focal nonenhancing T2 hyperintensity with hypointensity on flair on the right is stable and likely represents a neuroepithelial cyst, although continued follow-up is recommended in this patient. There has been no change since prior study. A focally prominent sulcus in the left temporal lobe is identified and somewhat limited in evaluation due to patient movement. This is of questionable clinical importance. Please correlate with the history. My questions: Can this type of cyst turn into a tumor? Is this the type of cyst usually found in correlation with a tumor? Can you define a neuroepithelial cyst? If there is no evidence of an associated tumor, why the need for follow up? How often would you recommend follow up MRIs? What is the signifigance of prominent sulcus? All questions I have asked and have received vague answers, and told not to worry.

(0.8510)   Two years ago this month, I had been sent by my GP to the Mayo Clinic for a severe headache/dizziness evaluation. After much testing and more than a few MRI~s/CT~s a golf ball sized tumour which after an intended biopsy turned out to be an epidermoid cyst (cholesteatoma) was found in the left temporal region. The attending otolaryngologist as stated had only planned performing a biopsy (cutting a way a portion of the skull), but after seeing that the skull had already been impacted by the cyst and having identified it~s pearly white texture as a cholesteotoma, removed up to 80%. The post-op went well and during the follow-up they physician passed that the other 20% was sitting in a bone pocket and wrapped around the trigeminal nerve as well as an artery which might require further surgery. Because money became an issue and my Govt employee plan would not cover the care w/ Mayo, I found a reputable ENT through BCBS in Central Florida who was willing to take me on. The only problem which leads to my question (sorry for the long winded intro) but the CT folks are saying that due to scar tissue they do not see the rest of the tumour, the ENT says I have nothing to worry about, but cannot explain why suddenly I feel I have to constantly clear my ear, there is located pain and pressure there, infrequent dizziness, eye twitches, involuntary muscle reaction in the jaw and just under the jaw in the neck? Is this common to this type of surgery and does the fact that I can hear my pulse constantly normal? No one seems willing to step up to the plate and give an answer because they were not part of the initial work (even though they have the complete history)? Thoughts and help if possible....Thanks much!

(0.8510)   What are the symptoms of a pitutary cyst? How is it treated. Is it very serious?

(0.8351)   Can a subarachnoid cyst in 6.5cm X 4cm in middle cranial fossa (right temporal region) cause behavioral changes, mania?

(0.8351)   My Co-worker said she was diagnosed with Cysts in her brain because of air in her brain. Does this make sense to you? Any suggestions as to what she may be trying to say she has? Thanks for your help.

(0.8351)   I have been recently diagnosed with a cyst in my pineal gland, have been given absolutely no information, and can find no information on this. Can you please help me understand this?

(0.8351)   My son has had a MRI, he has been diagnosed w/a cyst and has an appt. w/a neurologists. He has been having behavioral/anger problems. Curious, could this be the behavioral changes, Could this be related??

(0.8351)   I~ve tried this once and didn~t get a reply, but I~ll try once more. I~m a 36 year old female. I had a grand mal seizure about three months ago. Was sent for a CTscan and MRI where they found something small, it has been described as a lesion, cyst or tumor, about 2cm in size. I have been but on anti-seizure meds. I have not had a seizure since. About 2 months later I had another MRI and was told that nothing has change, and will be having another MRI in about a week. What I was wondering are there many cases where something like this exist, and doesn~t grow at all or cause anymore problems? Could something like this have been there all my life? Also about 20 years ago I received a concussion from a sledding accident where I suffered retro grade amnesia, could this be the cause of the tumor or cyst?
