  (0.8658)   I am a 15-year-old boy and I am scheduled for a CT scan for a brain tumor in two months. I came across a type of brain tumor/cancer called a brain stem glioma. I have alot of the common symptoms, like my eyes have a weird feel; it's not the clarity of them but the feeling of JUST my eyes being dizzy and weak. Also, and for the first time, I had serious double vision. I sometimes get headaches, my limbs feel weak and sketchy, my face feels numb, my eye lids open automatically when I sleep, I feel very drowsy, and my head has a load of pressure on it. I was wondering if there are any other types of brain tumors or illnesses which mimic my symptoms because the survival rates of a brain stem glioma are very low. I was also wondering if an MRI scan shows it better, because one website had info on MRI scans for brain stem glioma.

I am italian and a few months ago my brother went under surgery to remove a brain tumor in the frontal part of the head. He has now finished the chemioterapy and at the moment he is responding quite well to the treatment, but the doctors think that his life expectancy is only 12 months. I have heard about genetic terapy, but I do not know where I can find the hospitals in europe that do it. I will be very grateful if you can give me some advise where to find hospitals that do this kind of terapy and other available treatments. Yours sincerely Domenico Muratore.

  (0.8658)   I have heard that some doctors believe that the psychotropic medication Risperdal may be causing brain tumors in patients who have taken it for several years. My 35 year old son has taken Risperdal since it was introduced. He recently had a brain tumor removed and the surgeon said he had never seen a tumor like it. There are 2 more tumors in his brain that will be monitored. Are you aware of a connection between Risperdal and strange benign brain tumors? Thank you. Brenda Wilkerson

  (0.8658)   What kind of symptoms are common with brain tumors? Three years ago, I had a tumor removed from my right eye causing loss of sight in that eye. I haven~t had any symptoms since then. Just three months ago, I started having blind spots followed by cold sweats and intense headaches, and then vomiting. I~ve never had headaches before so this has kind of scared me. Does it sound like a brain tumor?

  (0.8510)   My Husband died of a brain tumor in 2002(anaplastic astrocytoma grade 3 - left frontal lobe). He had symptoms for a long time and we didn~t realize it was a brain tumor until the tumor began to bleed and caused stroke like symptoms. How long can a brain tumor remain dormant? His headaches started in the late 1980~s and his doctor did a cat scan and that was inconclusive. The doctor suggested an MRI but the Insurer wouldn~t pay for the procedure and the conclusion was stress was causing the headaches. In the early 1990~s the headaches continued and he began having other symptoms that we did not attribute to the headaches (projectile vomiting, loss of bowel and bladder control). These other symptoms were occaisional and we thought it was something he ate. In 1993 after my sister died of cancer we began taking an herbal tea (eissac) to prevent cancer and my husband continued to take this tea up until his tumor began bleeding in 2001. Is it possible the tumor was there from 1988? Was it possible the tea helped to prolong his being being able to live with the tumor being dormant? He still had the headaches and occaisional bouts of loss of bladder and bowel control and vomiting and short term memory loss. I know, obviously, if he had been diagnosed sooner he would have had a better chance of survival. But, was the tumor there as much as 10 or 15 years before it was found?

  (0.8510)   I have been researching but cannot really find any answers. My father was just diagnosed two months ago with a glioblastoma multiforme. His first cousin also had a brain tumor. Does this constitute a family history and does this mean my sister and I should have MRIs? t seems like there is conflicting information on whether there is a genetic component and if they can test for it.

  (0.8510)   My father, age 68, was diagnosed with a mixed anaplastic oligoastrocytoma brain tumor. The tumor was surgically removed and the the doctor said they were able to remove 95% of the tumor. He has undergone radiation therapy, and 32 days of chemotherapy (Temodar, 120 mg). He is currently taking another round of chemotherapy (Temodar, 300 mg x 5 days out of 28 days for 6 months). We are trying to find out what the survival rates for this type of brain cancer are? Also, are there any alternative treatments that have had success treating this type of brain tumor.

The tumor has been completely removed and she has just finished her radiotherapy sessions along with a daily does on 100mg temodal. So far, she has responded well to this treatment aside from fatigue and some hairloss. She will now undergo a 6 month maintainence schedule of 5 days temodal in a 28 day cycle. I want to know if any nutritional/ dietary changes and an exercise regime can help. where can i read up on this.

  (0.8510)   My husband has a grade 4 mixed glioma recurring brain tumor that started as a grade 2 oligo 7 years ago. He had clean scans for 6 1/2 yrs. and then there it was. My questions has nothing to do with treatment issues, but of terminology. The drs. are using the term palitative treatment. I know what palitative treatment means, but what I want to know is if there is a certain criteria drs. use to determine when a patient is in palitative treatment? For example, GBM~s supposedly are not curable, is their treatment also palitative? Is palitative a term that is used with all malignant brain tumors or just certain stages of the disease? Thank you.

  (0.8510)   I have read that low grade astrocytomas will upgrade to a more aggressive form at some point in a patients life. However, I have been informed that pilocytic astrocytoma grade 1 can not progress to a grade 2. Since I have this kind of brain tumor (operation with only some removal due to position at the brain stem - medulla oblongata performed in May followed by radiation treatment in June/July, please let me know which information is correct. Also, you advised me to contact some major cener treating brain tumors. Can you reccomend me some of them. I am located in Croatia (so I would prefer Austria, Slovenia or Italy due to the distance) but any other location should not be a major problem. Thank you, Nat

  (0.8510)   My husband has had a headache for three weeks now. His memory has declined. His visual acuity has declined and is worse at night than in the day. His neck hurts and he can no longer do more than one thing at the time. He has had an MRI, lumbar puncture and CAT Scan. All are normal. The neurologist did not order an opening pressure reading when the lumbar puncture was done although he did acknowledge that my husband had many neurological symptoms. Now he tells us he doesn~t have a clue what is going on and that my husband may just have headaches like this forever. I can~t accept that. He has had headaches all of his life and his night vision he says has always been less clear than in the day. I think we need an opthamologist or another lumbar puncture with an opening pressure reading. Any advise?
