(0.7967)   My Husband died of a brain tumor in 2002(anaplastic astrocytoma grade 3 - left frontal lobe). He had symptoms for a long time and we didn~t realize it was a brain tumor until the tumor began to bleed and caused stroke like symptoms. How long can a brain tumor remain dormant? His headaches started in the late 1980~s and his doctor did a cat scan and that was inconclusive. The doctor suggested an MRI but the Insurer wouldn~t pay for the procedure and the conclusion was stress was causing the headaches. In the early 1990~s the headaches continued and he began having other symptoms that we did not attribute to the headaches (projectile vomiting, loss of bowel and bladder control). These other symptoms were occaisional and we thought it was something he ate. In 1993 after my sister died of cancer we began taking an herbal tea (eissac) to prevent cancer and my husband continued to take this tea up until his tumor began bleeding in 2001. Is it possible the tumor was there from 1988? Was it possible the tea helped to prolong his being being able to live with the tumor being dormant? He still had the headaches and occaisional bouts of loss of bladder and bowel control and vomiting and short term memory loss. I know, obviously, if he had been diagnosed sooner he would have had a better chance of survival. But, was the tumor there as much as 10 or 15 years before it was found?

(0.7967)   My niece was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma two years ago. At that time, she had 2 brain surgeries and received radiation. Everything was going well until this past September when the tumor reoccured on both sides of the brain and was a GBM. She has undergone Temador and CPT11 and has also had a shunt put in to reduce swelling. Her last MRI showed no sign of the tumor; however, in the past week she has been experiencing shaking of her right arm and some in the left arm as well. No one has been able to explain this since she is not on any medicine that would make this happen. The first major tumor was on the right. Do you have an explanation?

(0.7967)   My daughter had a Anaplastic Astrocytoma tumor, everything removed and she had radiation. She is still on Dilantin 400 mg a day for over a year now. How long will she have to stay on this level and can this be reduced? Can the operation she had for the tumor cause other problems such as breathing issues. She has some forgetfulness to this day. Wilm this ever go away and what can she do to help improve this? She takes only 2 courses in college because her doctor does not want too much stress on her. How long before that changes?

(0.7967)   My son-in-law had an Anaplastic Astrocytoma removed 18 months ago from his right posterior frontal lobe. Recently, he started experiencing slurred speech, vomiting and frequent grand mal seizures. Does this signal recurrence? If so, what else can we expect during his last stages?

(0.7967)   how long will someone live who has a anaplastic astrocytoma brain tumor

(0.7967)   I know that brain tumors have a tendency to run in families. Surprisingly, both my mother and father passed away from brain tumors, my mother about 25 years ago and my father 18 years ago. Six years ago my father's younger brother also passed away after being diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma. I checked at that time and there were no prior known incidents of anybody else having tumors in the family. I do not have the details on the type of tumors my parents had. All three of them used to live next to a pharmacetical drug company and my father and his brother worked there for a few years. I was born there and we moved to a new place within 2 years. All this haunts me and makes me wonder what to expect. Is there anything I can do to stay on top of this? I know we are still trying to find a cure, forget prevent the occurence of one.

(0.7967)   Is it recommended for a woman, age 36, with Anaplastic Astrocytoma, who completed radiation and is now doing chemotherapy with Temodar, to have surgery to remove the brain tumor? Is there evidence that surgery prolongs life expectancy?

(0.7967)   My daughter is 21 and was diagnosed with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma. She had two operations to remove the tumor. She then had 6 weeks of radiation. She has had two MRIs that came back clean. My questions are: 1) when will she be considered a cancer survivor, that is, how many years of clean MRIs does it take, and 2) what is the chance of this tumor returning.

(0.7967)   If someone has a anaplastic astrocytoma cancer tumor,it is graded at 3, and only gets radtion, how long is there life span to be? it was size of golf ball, but still has 10% with new cancer cells in there. Please advise on how long this person has to live ,a approx.

(0.7967)   Have there been any clinical trials results regarding the use of Poly ICLC and it~s usefulness in the treatment of anaplastic astrocytoma? What drugs would you suggest using in conjunction with PCV chemotherapy?

  (0.7967)   What is a geoblastoma?

(0.7742)   What is the difference between diffuse astrocytoma grade three, a GBM, and AA grade three? Is it common for low white counts and low platelet counts to continually delay temodar treatments by a couple of weeks?

(0.7742)   Hi, I am a 38 year-old male. Right frontal lobe tumor. First surgery on May, 2002, partial debulking. Original size was equivalent to an elongated golf ball. Original diagnosis was a pure Oligodendroglioma, grade II. Second surgery, September 19, 2002, Intra-operative MRI, the bulk of what was resected was Oligo, but with a small portion of tumor with Astrocytes close to the motor strip. My new diagnosis was Anaplastic Astrocytoma, grade III. A very small portion of the tumor was left behind to be treated by radiation and chemo (Temodar). My first MRI last week (1/13/03), post-radiation therapy, was clean, which was expected. I~m in my 3rd of 10 cycles of Temodar. I feel like I~m spinning my wheels researching stuff and I~m starting to see the same info. repeated on several sites. I have two small children and a very strong will to live as long as possible. I~m changing my diet, work out when I can, and doing my due diligence into natural supplements to help my body operate as effectively as possible so it can fight! Is there anything else I can be doing to fight this thing or just have my MRI~s every 3 months and stay in this holding pattern? I know the doctors can only tell me what the ~~stats~~ are regarding prognosis using large populations of patients. I feel like I have a lot going for me, which will enable me to reach the upper limits of the prognosis range given to me. Comments? Thank you.

(0.7742)   My father has a glioblastoma multi-form brain tumor, and I had a few questions that have been hanging around in my head for awhile, and no one has been able to answer them...I was wondring if you could answer a few of my questions. What this actually is. How it affects the body. What are the complications? How is it diagnosed? What are the symptoms? What is th treatment? Are there any lifestyle changes? Is there a plan that would help decrease your chances of contracting this? Thanks for your time and I will greatly appreciate your answers!

(0.7742)   My sister has been fighting Anaplastic Astrocytoma for 3 years. She has had radiation and two surgeries. Recently, something appeared on her MRI, the doctor said it could be scar tissue from the radiation. How long after radiation does scar tissue appear?

(0.7742)   My husband has Anaplastic Astrocytoma, which was 91% removed. He received radiation and Temodar. His MRI shows no sign of tumor. The doctor said he will keep him on Temodar since it is working. While on Temodar, does this keep the tumor away indefinitely?

(0.7742)   I was having multiple seizures and was found to have a large (4.3cm x 5cm) Anaplastic Astrocytoma in my right frontal lobe. It was removed a year ago and I have been seizure free until recently. I~ve been on Dilantin so doesn~t the return of seizures mean the return of the tumor? What symtoms should I be aware of for tumor regrowth?

(0.7742)   My granfather is 81 years old. He was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma 3. He was removed a tumour. What is the next step? If he is too old for radioteraphy? What is the treatment in this case?

(0.7742)   Do you have any information on a trial using CPT1 and Celebrex for anaplastic astrocytoma?

(0.7742)   I have been diagnosed w/grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma. (non operable due to risk per 3 neuro surgeons) I have numbness in my left arm/leg/side due to tumor pressure in the right side of the brain on my thalmus. Can anything be done to remove or dull the numbness short of surgery?

(0.7742)   My son is 31 and has been diagnosed with an inoperable anaplastic astrocytoma apprimately 5 cm in each dimension. He is in good health otherwise and has no functional loss. What are his survival chances (there is not much information on inoperable brain tumors)? Thanks.

(0.7742)   I~m confused about alot of info that I~ve read on the net regarding anaplastic astrocytoma - is there a cure? I know a 23 y/o who has been diagnosed with this ailment. She~s had surgery, radiation & chemo, soon she is supposed to start Temodor. I guess my question is - will this med cure her, slow the progression? The results from the trials are confusing - out of 162 it seems alot of them died, can I assume the people that didn~t, survived? I~d appreciate a response. Thanks.

(0.7742)   When all treatment has failed and the tumor is inoperable, estimated life expectancy is 6 mos to 1 year, what would indicate that the person is near the end as far as symptoms? The tumor is anaplastic astrocytoma on the left & center of the brain. I need to know what to look for while caring for my sister. Will she sleep more, lose her sight, have severe pain? Please advise, I would like to make her last days as pleasant and comfortable as possible. I do have hospice in place for her. I would like to be informed. Thank you.
