Is an arachnoid cyst 4.25cm x 1.7 cm in the left middle cranial fossa with a mass effect on the temporal lobe concerning?
Effects of 5 mm left frontal lobe tumor. my boyfriend had a CT of his brain after a motorcycle accident and was told he had a 5mm tumor. he said a few years ago a doctor had mentioned it and noone gave it another thought or any further testing. since then (over 1 year) he has been extremely depressed, isolated, lethargic, fatigued, highly irritable, memory loss and inability to concentrate, and often has speech difficulty (not being able to think of a word he wants to say or speaking quickly and slurring), and repeats himself very often (like you would see in dementia patients) he is 53. my question is would a mass of this size cause these things and in fact be an organic problem, rather than a depression, bipolar or other psychiatric problem? he has been to psych drs and has tried several different medications, but has not been effective. he never mentioned the tumor to the doctor because he felt noone else at the hospital had seemed worried about it...i understand his symptoms are indicative of major depression or bipolar, but was wondering if the presence of this tumor made a difference- am i reaching for straws or can there be organic reasons such as thyroid level, testosterone level, brain tumor side effects; as he was never given any blood work or testing before being started on medication.
My 59-year-old friend has a brain tumor and is scheduled for a biopsy in 6 days. Her short-term memory and balance are deteriorating quickly. She and her husband do not know how to care for her until the biopsy. Do you have any specific recommendations?
I want to know about a vaccine that could work for swine flu. Is vaxigrepe good for a brain tumor AA survivor? My husband is a two-year survivor & he has been taking the vaxigrepe shot for the past two years. Could that be good for him this year or is there a more effective one for his case?
My 28-year-old brother was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma and is being treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is to start radiation with low dose Temodar in one week, followed by high dose Temodar. What is the success rate of this treatment in preventing reoccurance, and what factors affect whether this treatment works on some people but not on others?
My friend had surgery about 3 weeks ago for a tumor. The doctor was pretty sure it was benign, but the labs came back as an Anaplastic Astrocytoma. She has already had 3 Cyberknife treatments. My problem is that I feel they are rushing her into more radiation and chemotherapy treatments before they know if the first treatments worked. It was a primary tumor and quite small. Could you help me with the usual time frame for all this?
My father just had surgery to remove a Grade III astrocytoma in the left lobe of the brain. In surgery, during the removal of the blood vessels surrounding the tumor he suffered a stroke, which has left him with considerably reduced mobility on the right side. I was just wondering if the recovery of this type of stroke is any different than a natural stroke? Will the trauma from the surgery impede the recovery from the stroke? This was his second resection so he is on incredibly high doses of steriods, although it has only been a week so those will be reduced slowly.
My friend has a recurrence of an anaplastic oligoastrocytoma. This is a small tumor and she is wondering about the effectiveness of using CyberKnife radiation for this one tumor. Any ideas? Recurrence of an anapalastic oligoastrocytoma having done these treatments: * GammaKnife (one session) and Fractionated (8ish sessions) focal (versus whole brain) radiation * 2 cycles of Temodar (18ish months, 6ish months) and one cycle of Avastin (10ish times) * 3 brain surgeries
I have a residual tumor after surgery. What is the treatment for a residual tumor after surgery? How would the residual tumor be removed?
I had an MRI of the brain last year (3rd May, 2008) and it was absolutely normal. What is the total time period for development of a brain tumor in a normal brain and conversion of a benign tumor to a malignant one (i.e., what is the the minimum time required to develop brain cancer in a normal brain)? I know it is tough to say and depends on the type of tumor, particular individual, and a number of other factors. But, it is also true that if somebody has a normal brain MRI today, he/she cannot have brain cancer after 7 days. Hence, can you just give me a rough idea on the minimum time period required.
My father lost his memory one week after his brain tumor operation. He was 100% OK right after his operation but on the 7th day after his operation he lost his memory and now he is still in the same condition for the last 50 days. Doctors say his reports are OK; no need to worry, memory will came back soon. Please tell me what we should do. How much time do these cases usually take to resolve? Can I send you the scanned copies of his reports? Thanks & Regards, Qasim
My wife had a brain tumor that came from her breast cancer she had long ago. Now she is home; she had 30 full brain radiation treatments and she also had the tumor removed. However, the doctor said it was malignant. What does this mean? He said she will be OK, or will she? She is already showing signs of change; she cannot hardly speak nor think and no longer can drive, and her hearing is going. What do I do to help her? What is the normal time for this slow death to happen?
Which of the following brain tumors have the least favorable prognosis: Ependymoma, Medulloblastoma, Glioma of brainstem or cerebellar astrocytoma?
I have a pineal cyst that I believe is causing major symptoms. I have had a lot of testing with the pineal cyst being the only thing abnormal. I have nausea, vomiting, weight loss, blurred vision, head pressure, and left sided numbness/tingling. One of the doctors thinks it could be a "symptomatic" cyst while the other thinks it is not. Is there anything I can do to get an answer or treatment? Are there specific questions I should be asking to make sure it is not the cause of my problems?
My dad is currently being treated for an atypical canceroid tumor on the brain. Approximately two years ago, he was diagnosed with a canceroid tumor on the lung. Recently, they found 2 tumors on the brain which had metastasized from the canceroid. One was removed but the one on the pons is inoperable and they are leaving it be. He is having radiation on the site of the removed tumor and possibly having chemo as well. We have been told this is rare and no information is available. We have many questions which can not be answered but would like an explanation about where the tumor is and what it can do/effect.
My husband has a recurred anaplastic astrocytoma. He had surgry, radiotherapy and is now undergoing chemotherapy. Please can you help us. He is having cold laser treatment to his immune system, and we are so desperate to go further down the immune therapy route.
I have had 6 surgeries in less than 2 years since they told me I had a meningioma. I am blind in one eye, still have severe headaches (in new places), balance issues, and my depression is getting very bad. I feel like nothing will ever be the same again and hate myself for feeling this way. How long does it take before you start feeling like a normal person again or will I have to deal with these issues for the rest of my life?
My mother just had a brain tumor removed and her head still does not feel right and she has been throwing up alot. What is going on?
In August, 2008, I started to get a lot of headaches. I went to the ER a number of times. One doctor ordered a CT scan of my head. They did not find anything. I started reading about CT Scans and learned that they use radiation for the imaging. I also learned that MRI's do not use radiation. I was never offered a choice of having an MRI. I'm now worried that I got exposed to radiation to my head. The radiation used was 1.89MSV. Could this amount of radiation cause a brain tumor? How often should I screen myself for a brain tumor. Please help?
I have experienced debilitating headaches for the past year-and-a-half. I have many, if not most, of the symptons of a brain tumor. I had an MRI and MRA and both were negative. Where do I go from here?
My husband has a brain tumor; he is 60 years old. He had surgery in 2001 and the tumor was only partially removed because of its location. Since it was a pituitary tumor, after surgery and radiation, he had to take hydrocortisone 5 mg daily and thyroxine. Now, whenever he has a cold or vomits or has any stress, his cortisone level gets low, he goes into shock, and an extra dosage has to be given to him through injection or intravenous injection. Sometimes, he goes to sleep and, if I don't know it, his condition gets very serious, in fact, it is a life and death situation. Is there any herbal supplement I can give in place of hydrocortisone that has no side effects. Is there any treatment for this?
Hi I am looking for pain relief from my last brain surgery[ Feb2002] i am left with pain 24-7 all around my eye. pain scale 4-6 My dr was dr sen st lukes n y c. My 73 yr. old husband was diagnosed with two inoperable glioblastoma stage 4 brain tumors in July 2008. He has received radiation and chemo until 10 days ago. He has had problems with blood clots in his right foot and a filter was placed in August. Now his entire right leg is swollen from blood clots and I want to know if this is common and will this subside. He is currently taking Dexamethasone and Dilantin.
I was diagnosed almost 6 months ago with GBM. I went through radiation and chemo (Temodar) which I am back on now for the 5 days on, 23 days off. My problem now is that I cannot seem to stay awake. This is new for me and truthfully has me a bit scared.
I have recently been diagnosed with a GBM. I have had resection surgery and have just started standard radiation/temador treatment. I have so far added to this 400mg Celebrex per day and intend to also add 150mg of hydroxychloroquine and an undecided dose of Tamoxifen. I have read about the side effects each of these drugs can cause, particularly Tamoxifen. I am concerned as to how much I should take to ensure that it is effective without taking more than is necessary. I am a 46yo 57kg otherwise fit female and have estimated approx 100mg Tamoxifen . I would value your input and comments. I am also concerned as to how the various drugs may interact with each other. Again I would value your comments on this point. My current drugs are: Sodium Valproate 800mg per day), Dexymethasone (3mg per day), Celebrex (400mg per day), Temodar (120mg per day), Kytril (anti nausea - 2mg per day) Nexium (for stomach acid - 20 mg per day) Respsium Forte (antibiotic twice per week) Fish Oil (1000mg per day) Melatonin (5 6x tablets per day) Planned addtions are the Hydroxychloroquine and Tamoxifen. The Tamoxifen is the only one which has not so far been prescribed to me.
